The Challenge

Australian Unity needed to improve daily rostering for care workers and customers while also migrating workforce and customer capabilities from a legacy platform into Salesforce.

How I Contributed

Delivery leadership

  • Coordinated operations, product owners, SMEs, engineers, testers, integration teams and the external vendor.
  • Led BAT, UAT, dress rehearsals, Jira workshops, defect triage and sign-off activities.
  • Reviewed requirements, test scenarios, evidence and delivery status.

  • Developed SQL stored procedures, Python processing and SQL Agent scheduling.
  • Built Tableau data-quality, KPI and availability dashboards.
  • Performed Salesforce validation, QuerySurge comparisons and migration checks.

Building the Rostering Data Flow

Australian Unity engaged Biarri to support workforce rostering. I validated the business requirements and designed the daily data-supply process from the legacy SQL Server environment.

I replaced the existing master extraction procedure with a customised stored procedure returning only the required data. Python generated the CSV outputs, while SQL Server Agent scheduled the process for 6:00 am each morning.

I also coordinated secure SFTP setup so input files could be sent to Biarri and processed results returned.

A Turning Point

When scheduling outcomes were inconsistent, I traced the issue through the data flow and found that the main problem was not the optimisation engine—it was poor source-data quality.

Operational Automation

Biarri returned compressed output files. I created Python and SQL Agent processes to extract and reprocess them, add protected health information deliberately excluded from vendor input, refresh dashboard datasets and place final files into a controlled location.

I then worked with the WebMethods team to automate delivery into the correct SharePoint location for each branch.

Salesforce Transformation

While the rostering solution supported the legacy platform, Australian Unity was also migrating customer and care-worker capabilities into Salesforce. The non-clinical category needed to retain the Biarri scheduling model after migration.

I also acted as business-analysis lead for end-to-end BAT across scheduling and service-delivery modules. Jira, Zephyr and Confluence supported execution, traceability and artefact management.

Business Outcome

The programme established an automated workforce-rostering data flow supported by better source quality, operational monitoring and repeatable branch-level processing.

It also enabled rostering capability to progress alongside the Salesforce migration and improved business readiness through BAT, UAT, dress rehearsals and transparent reporting.
